Welcome to Alpha Epsilon Sigma!

About our AES Chapter                                           About Kappa Delta Pi

The Alpha Epsilon Sigma  (AES) Chapter at Western Governors University was installed by Dr. Heather Dodds, our Chapter's Counselor at the time, and Karen DeLawter, Kappa Delta Pi's liaison to local chapters, on February 19, 2010. Since that time our chapter has grown to over 4100 members worldwide with two inductions each year.
Kappa Delta Pi (KDP), International Honor Society in Education, was founded in 1911 to foster excellence in education and promote fellowship among those dedicated to teaching. For over a century, the Society has consistently grown, starting with a local chapter to become the international organization it is today, with an initiated membership that exceeds 1.2 million!

Mission

Kappa Delta Pi strives to sustain an honored community of diverse educators by promoting excellence and advancing scholarship, leadership, and service.

Vision

Kappa Delta Pi desires to help committed educators be leaders in improving education for global citizenship.

History

In 1909, University of Illinois Professor of Education Dr. William Chandler Bagley and a group of four of his students, including Truman Lee Kelley and Thomas E. Musselman, founded the Illinois Education Club.  On March 8, 1911, that club became Kappa Delta Pi, chosen from the Greek words to represent knowledge, duty, and power. From its inception, Kappa Delta Pi has been synonymous with scholarship, innovation, and excellence in the field of education.
